Out of the Lips of Silence: One Willa Cather Poem Experienced in Four Forms
Ticket Price Includes: Dinner, gallery exhibition, and performance The Apollon will partner with Lincoln’s Haymarket Theatre to present a collaborative arts experience that brings together performance, visual, and culinary art. Out of the Lips of Silence invites the audience into a Midwest landscape that is familiar, yet artificial. The movement piece investigates the relationship between human experience and the experience of agricultural growth, rooting, death, and renewal. The story is one of the elemental similarity of creativity, planting, and destruction as a means of fertilizing new creation. Inspired by Willa Cather’s poem “Prairie Spring,” this piece takes the seemingly blank landscape of Nebraska and transforms it into a rich, complicated, and violent story of generation and regeneration. Selected artists are creating paintings and sculptures for the gallery show, inspired by rehearsal for the movement piece. The performance will be preceded by a plated meal, sourced locally by chef John Schow and drawing from The Apollon’s signature style of “comfort food reinvented.” Youth with its insupportable sweetness, Its fierce necessity, Its sharp desire, Singing and singing, Out of the lips of silence, Out of the earthy dusk. – Willa Cather Evening performances October 26-29 6:00 PM Gallery Show 7:00 PM Dinner 8:00 PM Out of the Lips of Silence Matinee performance October 30 12:00 PM Gallery Show 1:00 PM Lunch 2:00 PM Out of the Lips of Silence
