One of the largest school districts in the country is supporting student activism.
Starting next month, Fairfax Country school district in Virginia will allow students to take one day off per school year to engage in political activism.
Fairfax County school district saw a rise in student activism following the 2018 Parkland shooting.
Activism could mean attending a protest or lobbying legislators in Washington, DC or Richmond, VA.
Students would have to submit the form in advance, check in at school that day and then they can leave.
The policy has faced pushback from conservatives who worry that this is an example of “schools coddling their liberal students.”
