Some just never learn. Food isn’t an effective distraction. Especially in this case.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) uncovered over five pounds of fentanyl hidden inside breakfast burritos.

We have the Yuma Sector Border Patrol canine to thank for this discovery. After the driver of a Chevrolet Tahoe was pulled aside for secondary inspection at Highway 78, the drug-sniffing dog tracked the scent from several small packages. This package turned out to be fentanyl pills stuffed inside breakfast burritos that had been tucked away into a backpack.

“Smugglers are under the false assumption that they can disguise drugs within food to throw off canines and their handlers,” CBP wrote. “On the contrary, canines have the ability to detect a target odor among a myriad of other odors.”

Border Patrol says the drugs had an estimated street value of nearly $60,000 and that the suspect, a 37-year-old Lawfully Admitted Permanent Resident, was arrested.

So, here’s an example of what NEVER to do.
