Many brands announce annual predictions for trends in the New Year, and Pinterest, which has the added advantage of access to data on people’s interests, has just announced their predictions for the biggest food and drink trends of 2022.
One of their biggest predictions happens to be “Afternoon tea will be the new happy hour,” the brand stated on its business site, predicting that people will choose darjeeling with a friend over drinks after work.” According to Pinterest, searches for “tea party aesthetic” and “drinking tea pose” have been spiking across all age groups. (Also on the rise: “butterfly pea tea,” “vintage tea party,” and “high tea food ideas.”)
Other food trend predictions include elaborate cakes and “ancestral eats,” which they define as “somebody’s grandparents’ recipes.”
On the cake front, the brand writes, “People will craft elaborate cakes to express whatever mood they’re in, from gravity-defying tiers to bubble and 3D cakes.” Searches for unusual cakes have doubled this year, and searches for “art cake ideas” have tripled.
When it comes to travel, Pinterest thinks we’ll be seeking out nighttime experiences, as well as all-inclusive travel that requires very little of us in the planning department.
