If you heard about Taco Bell’s Mexican Pizza: The Musical and immediately circled Thursday, May 26 on your calendar, then you were profoundly disappointed when that day came and went without a single Mexican Pizza-related song.

Taco Bell made the decision to postpone the musical’s TikTok premiere, so we’re all going to have to wait a little longer to see what Dolly Parton and Doja Cat have collaborated on. “At this time, we are postponing Mexican Pizza: The Musical,” the fast food chain tweeted. “We hope to reschedule to a later date, complete with the joy and celebratory spirit in which it was originally created.”

Taco Bell brought the fan-favorite menu item back earlier this month, and the response has been predictably passionate. But some users on the r/TacoBell subreddit have reported that the Mexican Pizza is sold out in their location or is unavailable to order on the Taco Bell app — and at least one Taco Bell resorted to taping a sign on its drive-thru that read “Sorry We Ran Out of Mexican Pizzas.”

Another post — with the not-at-all panic-inducing title “Welp, Bye Mexican Pizza” — showed a letter allegedly received by a Taco Bell employee, suggesting that the Mexican Pizza was not only sold out in a number of locations, but may be temporarily removed from the menu again.

“Because of the incredible love for Mexican Pizza, we have begun selling out across the country,” the letter reads. “We will communicate this to our fans later this week. The Mexican Pizza will return later this year; you’ll hear more from us as that date approaches.”

The correspondence went on to detail what Taco Bell employees should do when a customer orders a Mexican Pizza. (Short answer: They’re supposed to offer a free Crunchy Taco or Bean Burrito “to make up for it.”)

A Taco Bell representative directed Food & Wine to the official Taco Bell Mexican Pizza FAQ, which does confirm that they have been “selling out across the country,” but does not address the rumors that they could be leaving us again.

“We’re working diligently with our restaurants and suppliers to get more back in the hands and stomachs of our biggest fans,” the site reads. “You can follow along on this page for the latest details and information, including when we anticipate the Mexican Pizza to return to its permanent residency on the Taco Bell menu.”
